Lou Leonard Scholarship for TCDA All-State/Honor Choir Participation

Lou Leonard taught choral music at all levels for over 30 years, starting in Del Valle, Texas while she was earning a  Masters in Choral Music from the University of Texas.  After graduation she taught in Port Arthur, Texas for 10 years at the elementary level.  The highlight of her career was choral direction at the secondary school level in Spring Branch Independent School District in Houston.  During her years at Spring Woods High School she directed 14 Broadway musicals, often recruiting students from all over campus to get them involved in the productions.  When she retired in 1990, about 100 former students came back to perform with her current students for her final concert.

In addition to her musical talents, Lou had a gift for spreading joy and laughter.  She loved her family, her students, music, the beach, and cooking, and she was very generous in sharing all of these joys with the people she cared about.  Her greatest legacy is how much positive influence she had in the lives of so many, not just choir students, but those in orchestra, band, and theater, as well as her friends, family members, and her peers in the musical communities to which she contributed so much.
