Ideas for assisting TCDA to live into the mission and purposes of the organization: I am truly humbled to be nominated for the new TCDA office position of Special Projects and Public Relations Vice President. It is evident that such a role is essential at this juncture, and I am wholeheartedly committed to promoting collaboration, ensuring transparent communication, and fostering inclusive community engagement in our wonderful choral community.

As the Special Projects and Public Relations Vice President, I envision my responsibilities will span several critical areas. Including, but not limited to:

Social Media and Digital Presence: Collaborating closely with the Secretary, I aim to boost TCDA’s online presence. My objective is to establish a vibrant digital hub connecting choir directors, educators, and enthusiasts throughout Texas. By strategically leveraging social media platforms, I intend to amplify TCDA’s voice, disseminate valuable resources, and celebrate our diverse choral community.

Promoting TCDA: I recognize the importance of effective communication in advancing TCDA’s mission. I will spearhead efforts to promote the organization through various channels, including newsletters, press releases, and collaborations with other music associations. My vision is to highlight TCDA’s impact, showcase success stories, and attract new members who share a passion for choral excellence.

Special Projects: My innate innovative spirit drives me to explore new avenues to excel. Whether it’s organizing workshops, launching new programs, or advocating for diversity and inclusion, I will champion projects that enhance TCDA’s relevance and impact. My collaborative approach will involve seeking input from members and aligning projects with TCDA’s strategic goals.

Rooted in an unwavering commitment to Texas choral music, my vision transcends the boardroom. I aspire to vigorously connect with the wider choral community, champion diversity within our organization, and create an inclusive space for all. TCDA’s immense value has touched countless lives, including mine, and I am dedicated to ensuring its legacy endures for current and future choir directors.

Carlos Saenz, a Brownsville, Texas native, is currently the Head Choir Director at Fossil Ridge High School in Keller ISD. Mr. Saenz holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from The University of Texas at San Antonio and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Texas State University. Mr. Saenz's path to Education came after pursuing a career in Performance; he has worked with the Martina Arroyo Foundation, San Antonio Opera, Opera in the Ozarks, and Nevada Opera, in addition to being a featured soloist with the TMEA All-State Mixed Choir in 2019. In 2023, Saenz co-presented a session at the Summer TCDA Conference on the intersection of Performance and Music Education. Mr. Saenz sits on the Board of Directors for Fort Worth Chorale and co-chairs a committee which oversees the operation of the Schola Cantorum Project, an endeavor which brings new music to Title I schools for free.

Ideas for assisting TCDA to live into the mission and purposes of the organization:  Hello! My name is Carlos Saenz and I am a life-long product of the Texas Music Education system. My journey began in 1996, when middle-school Band Director, Keith DiSantis, convinced me to pick up a baritone and play in the band. From the very first time I felt the magic of making music in an ensemble, I was hooked. I try to recreate that magic for my students, everyday.

I believe TCDA is an special organization, worthy of the time and commitment required of the VP of Special Projects and Public Relations position. My hope is to provide a unique perspective and help to evolve the processes and foundational work that my excellent colleagues have begun.

I believe in transparency, honesty, and having tough conversations. I believe that nearly all of life's gifts that are worth having are won through hard-work and commitment. I am the product of a low-income, single-parent household. My father passed away when I was 13 years old and I watched my mother put herself through college and struggle to provide for us. It is through her grit and determination that I learned what it means to sacrifice for others - how to stay the course when things seem impossible. I have tried hard to live into that example in my life as a student, performer, educator, husband, and father.

I am a proud second-generation Mexican-American from the "Valley". I bring that energy and experience into how I teach and communicate with people. As a product of that community, I can also readily view issues through the lens of the students and directors who live or teach in similar regions. Frankly, I seek to advocate for all but have a heart for minorities.

Regardless of who is selected for the position of VP - Special Projects and Public Relations, the TCDA membership are going to receive someone who cares -this is exciting news! I believe that with my varied experience and God's grace, I can advocate for a wide-range of constituents.
