Repertoire Reviews will include “Two-Part Treble Songs Not About Love or Flowers”, “Engaging the Developing High School Choir”, and “Spring Songs for 4th-6th Grade Choirs”.
Two special afternoon sessions for College Students, focusing on the student teaching experience and job application/interview tips and suggestions.
Open rehearsals and performance by a Festival Choir made up of community and worship choir singers – a performance by Plano West Senior High’s pop/a cappella group – plenty of chances to connect, learn, and grow!
TCDA is hosting a Festival Chorus for church and community choir members at the 2024 Winter Conference!
Festival Chorus Registration and Information:
- Between September 15 and the deadline of November 17, church or community choirs may register their best “balanced” quartet or 1-4 of their best singers for a single fee of $75 or may enter 5-8 singers for $125. (There is an option to pay now or later.)
- Festival Chorus singers do not need to be members of TCDA, but the sponsoring director must be a current member of TCDA or must submit TCDA membership for 2024.
- If a church or community choir director registers as a Festival Chorus singer it is not necessary to register separately for the Winter Conference.
- The registration form will require entering name, voice part, email address and phone number for all singers.

2024 Keynote Speaker & Festival Chorus Conductor: J.D. Burnett
J.D. Burnett enjoys a varied career as a conductor, singer, and teacher. He is Director of Choral Activities at the University of Texas Butler School of Music, where he conducts the UT Concert Chorale and guides the graduate program in choral conducting. Additionally, Burnett is the founding Artistic Director of Kinnara, Atlanta’s premier professional chamber choir. He also serves as Artistic Director of Orpheus Chamber Singers, the premier professional chamber choir in Dallas.
Formerly, he was Associate Director of Choral Activities at the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music. He has served as Assistant Director of the Dallas Symphony Chorus, conductor of the New Jersey Youth Chorus Young Men’s Ensemble, Associate Conductor of the Masterwork Chorus of New Jersey, and Acting Director of Choral Activities at Montclair State University. Earlier posts include Interim Director of Choral Activities at San Jose State University, Artistic Director of the New Jersey Chamber Singers, Music Director of the Houston Masterworks Chorus, and Founder of Men’s Consort Houston. He also served as Choral Editor at McGraw-Hill, Inc.
Burnett did undergraduate study at Stanford University and Oklahoma State University. He holds advanced degrees in choral conducting from Westminster Choir College and the University of North Texas.
As a professional choral singer, Burnett has performed and recorded with the Stillwater Chamber Singers, Cantare Houston, Fuma Sacra, Robert Shaw Festival Singers, Choir of Trinity Church Wall Street, Oregon Bach Festival Chorus, Santa Fe Desert Chorale, and Conspirare.
